During the boys Thanksgiving break, we received an email from Pj's English teacher. It was such a pleasant surprise, and we are so very proud of him.
Aunmari and Paul,
I wanted to take the time to tell you how deeply thankful I am to be able to teach a student like P.J. He has consistently been one of the best students I've ever had the pleasure to teach, always trying his hardest, always putting forth his best effort, always giving something the other students can aspire to. He's worked hard to get his grades where he wants them, and I appreciate all the effort he's put into his assignments. But besides being a strong student, he is also just a wonderful individual. He is one of the most honest, one of the funniest--one of those people who have an impact on you. This past week P.J. participated in a Point Break workshop, which encouraged students to discuss any issues and feelings they might have been too scared to admit. One of my strongest memories from the workshop is of P.J. comforting a friend--as this other student cried about his haunted past, P.J. was there to support him, to encourage him, to comfort him. When I saw it, I teared up, honestly, because it truly was one of the most touching sights I've seen. It told me a lot about what kind of person your son is. He has become a student I will never forget. He has enhanced our classroom with his honesty, his ability to listen, and his talent at writing. In fact, he is one of the best writers in our class--one of the best voices--and I love to hear anything he's written. It's always well-worded and interesting, often introspective and wise.
It's rare that teachers have the pleasure of writing to parents with a positive message, but I truly felt compelled to give you yet another reason to be proud of your wonderful son. I'm sure you're the last people who need to be told just how amazing he is--because he is yours--but I wanted you to know that other people see what you do. So, thank you for raising such a wonderful son. He has truly changed me for the better.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving,
